Restoration Story: 1930s Queen Anne Revival Walnut Bureau

### From Orange Overload to Walnut Beauty

This early 20th century Queen Anne Revival walnut bureau, dating from circa 1930, arrived in a very tired condition. Years of wear, a heavy orange-toned finish and accumulated damage had obscured the beauty of the timber beneath.

The restoration began with carefully stripping back the existing finish to reveal the original walnut veneers. As the layers were removed, the spectacular bookmatched walnut grain hidden within the fall front gradually emerged, becoming the centrepiece of the piece once again.

Many repairs were carried out where required, preserving as much original material as possible while maintaining the bureau's character and integrity. The interior was refreshed in a soft neutral Fusion paint to create a practical workspace for modern living, while respecting and maintaining the bureau's traditional design on the outside.

The final finish was chosen to enhance the warmth and depth of the walnut that had been concealed for decades.

Today, the bureau stands as both a beautiful period piece and a functional compact workspace, proving that well-made furniture deserves a second chance rather than a place in landfill.

A challenging but rewarding transformation that celebrates craftsmanship, sustainability and hopefully respecting the quality of antique furniture.
